Welcome to the Pennsylvania Youth Action Conference 2013. First held in 2011, the YAC has become Pennsylvania’s largest statewide gathering of LGBTQ youth. The conference is organized by the Pennsylvania Student Equality Coalition (PSEC) Coordinating Committee – and is open to all Pennsylvania youth.
WHY THIS MEETING?
The establishment of the Pennsylvania Student Equality Coalition in 2011 as the first youth-led statewide LGBTQ organization in the nation has been a significant development in the pursuit for safe schools and LGBTQ equality in Pennsylvania. The recent introduction of the Pennsylvania Safe Schools Act is a landmark event for us in helping secure safe schools for all youth in our commonwealth.
The committed leadership of our movement is composed of youth from student LGBTQ organizations in high schools and colleges throughout the commonwealth, from large cities to rural communities. With the strong support of thousands of Pennsylvanians, our united youth advocacy provides remarkable new opportunities for our future. This great potential for social change now calls each of us to the front lines. The Pennsylvania Youth Action Conference (YAC) is convened to coordinate our action, so that together, we can chart new goals and achieve a more unified sense of direction with expert trainings, policy briefings, and caucus meetings.
WHO WILL ATTEND?
Representation is invited from all areas of Pennsylvania – including GSA leaders from high school, college, and university communities. Delegations will be attending from across the commonwealth. The PSEC Coordinating Committee unanimously called this conference on August 11, 2012 in Gettysburg.
SCHEDULE
The opening session will be Friday, February 1 at 7:00pm. Saturday and Sunday will be devoted to policy briefings, expert trainings, workshops, caucuses, and committee work. The conference will conclude at lunchtime on Sunday. The full conference agenda will be posted on this website.
REGISTRATION AND EXPENSES
All delegates must register online for the conference on this website. The YAC Conference Committee would be glad to answer any questions about the gathering and accommodations. We believe that your community will want to help share your travel expenses. PSEC will be providing free housing with Pittsburgh students and several meals. The total cost for attending the conference, three meals, and accommodations will be $20.00 per person until January 1, 2013.
